Vocab Test

Earlier this year I was set a challenge, namely to use the word “theodolist” as often as possible.  (A “theodolist” is someone who is not a qualified surveyor, but operates a theodolite.)

See if you can casually throw the following words into your next conversation by the water cooler or down the pub:

  • Popinjay
  • Apparatchik
  • Floccinaucinihilipilification
  • Notwithstanding
  • Paucity

Bonus points for using the third word.

Have a challenging day, won’t you!

  2. Popinjay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXIbnG0mz5k

A vain or conceited person, especially one who dresses or behaves extravagantly. (Related to the word “papagei” (sp?) in German.

    Apparatchik: basically, a careerist politician.

F…ion: the action of estimating as worthless. (‘Tis the common word in the Anglophone community of DUS.) 🙂

    Notwithstanding: Dennoch.

Paucity: a posh word for “shortage.” Eg: the paucity of network in the area.

(There will be a test next week…)

  3. Ignoring the paucity of my visits to your blog, sorry 😟, it was an absolute pleasure to see your lovely gravatar pop up in my messages this week. I can catch up now. 🙋🏼love this challenge.
